Netflix tests ₹349 Mobile+ plan with PC support and HD streaming

In a bid to capture the ever-growing smartphone user base in India, Netflix launched a new ₹199 mobile-only plan back in July last year. The plan offered users access to the platform’s content in SD resolution, with no additional perks like multi-device streaming or PC/TV support. While the plan is great to attract first time users, it isn’t as lucrative for someone who already has access to a multitude of cheap streaming services, especially ones that offer HD playback and PC/TV support. This is why Netflix is now testing a new Mobile+ plan in the country that offers both these perks.

According to a recent report from AndroidPure, Netflix’s new Mobile+ plan is priced at ₹349 (~$4.7), and it offers HD streaming capabilities. The plan also gives users access to Netflix on their PC, Mac or Chromebook, however, it doesn’t include support for smart TVs or multi-device streaming. The new plan is currently being tested with a small number of users, and it will be rolled out to more users if the platform receives a positive response.

In a statement regarding the matter, a Netflix representative was quoted saying,” We launched the Mobile plan in India to make it easier for anyone with a smartphone to enjoy Netflix. We want to see if members like the added choice [the Mobile+ plan] brings. We will only roll it out long-term if they do.”

It’s also worth noting that if the new Mobile+ plan is rolled out for all users, it might replace Netflix’s current ₹499 “Basic” plan. As Gadgets360 points out, the Basic plan seems to be hidden for those users who have access to the new plan. For the unaware, Netflix’s Basic plan offers support streaming in SD resolution on all devices with a one device limit. This makes the new Mobile+ plan a better deal, as long as you don’t watch Netflix on a smart TV.
