IFTTT launches a Pro subscription that adds multi-step Applets and actions

If This Then That (IFTTT), one of the most popular automation services on the market, has launched a pro subscription that makes its service more powerful than ever. On the flip side, however, the company is now limiting free plans to just 3 Applets.

An IFTTT Pro subscription will grant you access to multi-step Applets with queries, conditional logic, and multiple actions, faster execution for polling and realtime Applets, and customer support. “Pro goes beyond just one trigger and one action to create sophisticated Applets that can query data from multiple sources before triggering multiple actions,” the company explained. So, for example, you can set up an Applet to trigger your smart lights and play a certain playlist on your Sonos speakers when someone pushes your Ring doorbell. That same Applet can also send an SMS to your family, notifying them that someone is at your door.

IFTTT Pro subscribers will be able to create unlimited Applets, while those on a free plan can create up to three. According to IFTTT, limiting free users will allow the company to “better align our Pro product roadmap with the needs of our most active Applet creators.” The new limitation on free users is a bummer considering how long IFTTT has been around, but it’s a service that has offered so much value for so long that I’m sure there will be plenty of users who will consider paying for it.

A pro subscription has a suggested retail price of $9.99 per month, but there’s a promotion going on that will allow users to set their own price (at a floor of $1.99 per month) for the first year. The promotion expires on Wednesday, October 7th. According to IFTTT, revenue generated from IFTTT Pro will allow the team to make its service even better, so expect even more features down the road.
