Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, Redmi 10X/10X Pro, and Moto Z4 Android 10 kernel sources are now available

Samsung recently expanded its foldable smartphone lineup with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 (our review). The captivating foldable from the Korean smartphone maker offers impressive specifications as well as a number of design improvements over its predecessor. The device packs a 7.59-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED primary display (when unfolded), a 6.23-inch HD+ Super AMOLED outer display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC, triple rear cameras, and a 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.

The phone runs One UI 2.5 on top of Android 10 out-of-the-box, and Samsung has already published the kernel source code for this device on their Open Source Release Center portal. The release is meant for the SM-F916B variant, targeting software version F916BXXU1ATHE.

Xiaomi has also refreshed its Github repo by publishing the kernel sources for the Redmi 10X series. Although the OEM maintains two different firmware packages for the Redmi 10X (code-name “atom”) and the Redmi 10X Pro (code-name “bomb”), their sources are unified. You can find the kernel tree for the device duo under the “bomb-q-oss” branch of the Xiaomi’s Github repo.

The release of the kernel source code should help jump-start the aftermarket development scene for these devices. In fact, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 owners with an unlocked bootloader can already try out the first unofficial port of TWRP right now.

Lastly, we have the Moto Z4 (code-name “foles”), for which Motorola has published a new set of kernel sources. The company originally released the Android Pie-based kernel source code for this phone back in September of 2019. The new package, however, corresponds to the Android 10 update for the Moto Z4 that rolled out several months ago.
