TWRP ports are now available for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus and Galaxy Z Fold 2

For those of you already managed to pick the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus or the Galaxy Z Fold 2, you will be happy to know that unofficial TWRP builds are now out for your devices. Compiled against the latest TWRP 3.4.0 codebase, the builds come courtesy of XDA‌ Senior Member ianmacd. The current set of recovery images has been tested to successfully boot on the SM-T976B variant of the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus 5G and the SM-F916B variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

As expected, you need a model with an unlockable bootloader in order to flash TWRP. US carrier variants are usually not suitable for modding since they can’t be unlocked. Even if you have an unlocked model and are interested in trying out TWRP, keep in mind that installing a third-party binary (e.g. TWRP) will permanently trip Knox. There is no way you can reverse the situation, which means you will permanently lose access to Samsung Pay and security features such as Secure Folder which relies on Knox security. If you are ready to deal with such consequences, head over to the TWRP thread for your respective device by clicking on the link below to grab the required files. It is worth mentioning that you have to flash a dummy vbmeta.img besides the recovery image to properly boot TWRP on your device.

According to the developer, the custom recovery doesn’t support Samsung’s proprietary file-based encryption (FBE). If you disable the auto-encryption routine and subsequently format the data partition, you should be able to perform data backup/restore using TWRP. Moreover, MTP is broken in these ports, but you can disable MTP in TWRP Mount settings and use ADB to push files from the computer to the device (or vice-versa).
